Issues Chelsea, Man United and other top six clubs must address before start of new season
FootballMoises Caicedo: How Liverpool Could Line Up After Signing Brighton Midfielder
- Liverpool sensationally hijacked Moises Caicedo from the grasp of Chelsea
- The Blues tracked him for months but fell short of Brighton's valuation of the player
- The Reds made the Ecuadorian midfielder a British record signing for £110m
Liverpool have taken themselves a notch higher ahead of the new season after hijacking Chelsea's move for Moises Caicedo from Brighton in the last hours.
Jurgen Klopp wanted a midfield rebuild after parting ways with his aged midfield of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho and others, and it seems he may have gotten the perfect rebuild.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool will make Caicedo a British record player for £110m, outbidding Chelsea, who had been on the deal for months.
He will be the second player the Reds will sign after completing the £35m signing of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister earlier in the window.
Caicedo's place in Liverpool's 11
Caicedo is a tireless worker, adept at shielding the defence and escaping pressure to move the ball up the field and presents a perfect profile to complete a rebuild of Klopp's midfield.
Alongside Mac Allister, the 2020 Premier League champions also signed Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for £60m, as reported by BBC Sports, but both are central midfielders who are better in the advanced role than in the defensive phase.
The Ecuadorian and the Argentine were familiar at Brighton. They can play in the pivot while Szoboszlai plays as the number 10, or Caicedo slots in defensive midfield while Mac slots as the left-sided 8, while the Hungarian plays on the right side.
In defence, Alisson Becker keeps his place in goal while a back four of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson line up in front of him.
When Messi Named the Only Player Who 'Knows Him to Perfection'
FootballIn attack, Klopp has a big decision to make. Mohamed Salah is guaranteed the right-wing forward, while Darwin Nunez's performance in pre-season could give him the edge. Diogo Jota could back up the Uruguayan in the number 9 or compete with Luis Diaz on the left wing.
RB Leipzig troll Liverpool
Sports Brief reported on RB Leipzig trolling Liverpool after the English club made an apparent gaffe in the spelling of new signing Dominik Szoboszlai's name.
The club's kit man added an extra "S" in the middle of the name during a pre-season game, and it caught the attention of the football fans.
